One of my memorable experiences as a guest faculty

I became a guest faculty member at a reputed engineering college some time ago. My teaching subject for the semester was “Leadership Mastery through Self-management.”
In the beginning, it was a different experience for me. As a finance professional, I have many years of experience in treasury, corporate banking, investment banking, and corporate advisory. I never had a young audience like this, which was not connected to my field.
As always, I connected with the students in my usual informal way through activities and concepts. I was more of a facilitator, taking them through various life skill concepts.
Being a Heartfulness trainer, I also taught them how to meditate, and we all meditated at the close of all our weekly sessions.
In the first session, I remember telling all that they have to assume that there is a “divine light” in their hearts. One of the students said he is finding it difficult to assume such a thing.
Initially, I was wondering how to answer this. I said to him, “That is a good question”. I then looked at all and asked, “What could be an answer from any of you?”
While some low-tone conversations followed silence, no one volunteered to answer. By then, I had time to figure it out!
I asked all, “Do you have clarity every time you are asked to assume?”. The answer was yes. I asked them, “Are you sure?”. This time, seeing my smile, some sounded unsure.
I paused and observed that all were waiting for my input. I asked, “You all know about postulates?”. There was a resounding yes.
“Has the mathematical postulates been proven?”. After an initial hesitation, students said “No”. One said, “A postulate is a statement that is assumed true without proof.”
I said, “Great. You are taking a statement that has never been proven as correct?” There was a dull “Yes.”
Immediately, we did our meditation session, and many students genuinely said they enjoyed the interaction and the meditation. We had many such interactions with positive outcomes.
I have finished two semesters and am glad to be fortunate to be with young minds and their open-mindedness. When we explain a concept practically and in a simple, relatable way, youth accept it without reservation. One nice aspect about youth, in general, is they are not opinionated or egoistic.
