Hey there! I wanted to share my thoughts on education, jobs, and careers. As a partner in a corporate advisory firm, I’ve had the opportunity to help many companies raise private equity and provide guidance on important aspects like efficiency, risk mitigation, and joint ventures. However, since moving to India from overseas, I’ve noticed a trend among the Indian workforce that needs to be addressed constructively and positively.
I’ve observed that many employees are overqualified for their roles, leading to constant job-hopping, even among those with high skills and knowledge. While job-hopping may offer a temporary salary raise ranging from 15% to 25%, it’s not sustainable in the long run.
My experience has shown that while well-established companies carefully select their team members, startups and growth-stage companies often overlook quality during recruitment. I recently worked with a North American subsidiary that was overstaffed with sub-optimal personnel hired at salaries well above the market median. Unfortunately, half of the workforce would not receive the same salary if they looked for a job elsewhere.
However, given the young Indian workforce’s unique challenges and aspirations, I believe we can address these challenges constructively by providing proper guidance. We must shift from a job-oriented approach to a career-oriented one, as it not only offers significant benefits in knowledge, experience, and remuneration but also provides a stable and promising future.
Recognizing the challenges in finding the right career path, I strongly advocate for the role of mentors in the development of the workforce. With their invaluable guidance and support, these mentors can be the compass that steers young professionals toward a successful and fulfilling career.
As someone who deeply understands and empathizes with the challenges faced by the Indian workforce, I am committed to working constructively to help them achieve their goals and aspirations. By providing the proper guidance and support, we can empower the young workforce to develop their skills and achieve greater career success.
